Track Who AI Recommends in Your Town. One Prompt.
Nobody asks AI for you by name. They ask for the job. So who's AI sending your best jobs to? Here's how to find out, every month.

Bob owns a plumbing company in Jacksonville. He keeps hearing people ask AI for plumbers now. So one night after dinner, he tries it. He types his own company name into ChatGPT.
It comes back with a nice little write up about his services and his town. There's even a line about his reviews. Bob puts the phone down feeling pretty good.
Here's the problem. Nobody types Bob's name. The lady standing in a cold shower at 6am doesn't know Bob exists yet. She types "who replaces water heaters in Jacksonville."
AI hands her a name, or sometimes a short list. But one name always sits on top, with a reason next to it. That's the one she calls.
If it isn't Bob, he never hears about it. No missed call. Not even a voicemail. The job just rolls off in somebody else's truck, and Bob figures it was a slow week.
Think about that. The search that made Bob feel great will never bring him one job. So quit checking your name. Check the five jobs that pay you the most.
Then check them again next month, and the month after. That's the whole post. My free prompt does the work.
Nobody asks AI for you. They ask for the job.
TL;DR
Your customers don't ask AI for you. They ask for the job and the town. Pick your 5 best paying jobs. Run each one in ChatGPT, signed out. Write down who sits on top, and why.
Do it every month with my free prompt. Fix the first job you lose.
3 Things to Remember

Is AI Sending You Jobs?
Here's why your name always looks great. Type your name and AI already knows who you mean, so it goes and finds you. Of course you show up. You're the only answer.
Your customers ask a different question, the one where you're up against everybody in town. "Best roofer in Ponte Vedra." "Who does same day AC repair in Jacksonville." Different question. Different answer. And you might not be in it.
Find out in 30 seconds. Here's how.
- Open a private window on your phone. On an iPhone in Safari, tap the tabs button, then Private. In Chrome, tap the three dots, then New Incognito tab.
- Go to ChatGPT. Don't log in.
- Type the one job you want most this week. Say it like a customer. Put your town on the end.
- Read the answer.
Look at the name on top. Is it you? Are you anywhere on the list? If you are, good. If you're not, now you know where some of your work went.
Don't panic if it's not you. Most owners have never checked this once. Just by looking, you're ahead of them.
Mistake: you search your own name and figure AI is sending you work.
Fix: search the job and the town, the way a customer would.
Payoff: you see the answer your customers see.

Check Your 5 Money Jobs. Not Your Name.
Now make it count. You don't need to track every job you do, just the ones that pay the bills. I call them your money jobs.
Here's how to pick them. Pull up last year's invoices, or just think about it on the drive home. Which five jobs paid you the most? Not the ones the phone rings for most. The ones that pay the most when you land them.
A plumber might pick water heater replacement, repiping and slab leaks. A roofer might pick full roof replacement and storm damage. Pick by what the job pays, not what you like doing. You know your numbers.
Losing the top spot on a small repair stings. Losing it on your biggest job costs real money, every month it stays lost.
Now write each one the way a customer asks for it, not the way it reads on your invoice. Nobody types "residential tankless water heater installation services." They type "who replaces water heaters in Jacksonville." Or "best roofer for a roof replacement in Ponte Vedra."
Put the town on the end. Use the towns where you actually want the work. Write the five down, and never change the words. That's what makes next month's check mean something.
Stuck on the wording? Tell my free prompt "help me pick." It helps you pick and word all five.
Mistake: you track your name, or every job you've ever done.
Fix: track the 5 jobs that pay you the most, in your customer's words.
Payoff: you're watching the work that actually moves your bank account.

See Who AI Recommends. And Why.
Run all five jobs signed out, in a private window. Logged in, AI leans on what it already knows about you. Your customer isn't logged in as you, and you want to see what they see.
For each job, write down three things.
- Who sits on top.
- Whether you're on the list at all.
- The reason AI gave for its pick.
That reason is the gold. AI will usually tell you why it picked the name on top. Maybe they have a page just for water heater replacement. Maybe a pile of reviews about that exact job. That's AI telling you what it wanted to see. It's handing you the answer key.
Read it slow. Then open your own site and your Google Business Profile and ask one plain question. Do I show that? If the answer is no, you just found your fix.
One more thing. AI writes a fresh answer every time, so the list can shuffle a little. If a result surprises you, run that job again. Same name on top both times? Believe it.
Mistake: you see who's on top and get mad.
Fix: read the reason AI gave and see if your site shows the same thing.
Payoff: you know exactly what AI wants, straight from AI.

Get a Report Every Month. Track it.
One check tells you where you stand today. Checking every month tells you if you're winning. So use the same 5 jobs and the same words every month. You get one page that shows who's on top for each job, and whether you won or lost one.
That's what my free prompt does. Here's how to run it.
- Tap Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini on the prompt below. Or tap Copy and paste it in yourself.
- Answer a few questions.
- The first time, say "first time."
- Every month after, paste last month's report back in. It tells you what moved.
Here's what a report looks like for a made up shop. Tap each month.
You are going to build my Money Jobs Report. It shows who AI recommends in my town for the jobs that pay me the most, and why. Ask me these one at a time. Wait for each answer. 1. What is your business name and website address? 2. What is your trade, and what town or area do you serve? 3. List your 5 money jobs, the ones that pay you the most, written the way a customer would ask for them. Example: who replaces water heaters in Jacksonville. If you are not sure, say help me pick. Then ask me what jobs I do and which ones pay the most, suggest 5, word each one the way a customer would type it, and ask me to approve them. 4. Paste last month's report if you have one. Say first time if not. Then answer each of my 5 money jobs the way you would for a real customer in my town. Then make a one page report. For each money job, show: 1. Who you put on top, any others you named, and whether my business was on the list at all. 2. The reason you gave for the name on top, in plain words. 3. What changed since last month: who moved up, who dropped, and whether I gained or lost this job. If this is the first time, say first report, nothing to compare yet. Then give me: 1. The one job to win back first, and why that one. 2. The one fix for it: what the name on top shows that my business does not, and what to do about it this month. One fix, not ten. Rules: be honest even if I am not named. Never invent a business, a review or a number. If you are not sure, say so. Use the exact same wording for my 5 jobs every month. Write at a 5th grade reading level. Short sentences. No jargon. End with the whole report in a box I can copy and paste back next month. When you finish, the last thing you write is "Want some help? Let us do it." as a clickable link to https://smallbusiness-seo.com/let-us-do-it
Now schedule it so you don't forget. Put a reminder on your phone for the 1st of every month. Five minutes, same five jobs, paste last month's report back in.
Once in a while, run one job in a private window and make sure it matches.
Mistake: you check once, feel good or bad, and never look again.
Fix: same 5 jobs, same words, one report every month.
Payoff: you see a job slipping while you can still grab it back.

Fix It Now. Before it's too late.
I'll give credit where it's due. The name on top usually did something to get there. Maybe they built a real page for that job. Maybe they asked every happy customer for a review. AI isn't picking names out of a hat. It's picking the business that made the answer easy.
Now the turn. That means you can do it too. When a job slips, your report tells you what the new name has that you don't. Then it gives you one fix, not ten. You go do that one thing this month.
Here's where to go for each fix:
- They explain the job better than you: run the prompt in Not Getting Named by AI? This Prompt Shows You Why.
- It's their reviews: read Your Reviews Are Talking to AI.
- It's their Google profile: my post Your Google Business Profile Is Half Empty walks you through it. Or open your Google Business Profile and fill in every box today.
- It's the questions people ask: run the one that finds the questions in your town.
Don't sit on it. Every month that other name stays on top, your best jobs ride off in his trucks. The fix you make on the 2nd shows up in next month's report. That's how you know it worked.
I didn't write this from the cheap seats. I've built more than 10,000 websites in 25 years. Everything I build now is an AI-JSX site, 281 of them so far. Here's why that matters. An AI site is built so AI can read every page and know exactly what the business does. That's the whole idea behind the 100K Site.
Rather not run the report yourself? Want some help? Let us do it.
You go run your business. Let the report keep score, and fix one thing a month.
Mistake: you see a job slip and wait to see if it comes back.
Fix: do the one fix the report gives you, this month.
Payoff: next month's report shows you if you won it back.
FAQ
That one is a one time first look at whether AI recommends your business. This one tracks your 5 best paying jobs every month and tells you what changed. Run Ask AI About You first. Then use this one to keep score.
The 5 jobs that pay you the most when you land them. Not the ones the phone rings for most. Stuck? Tell my free prompt "help me pick" and it helps you choose and word all five.
It writes a fresh answer each time instead of reading off a fixed list, so the order can shuffle a little. That's why you use the same words every month, and run a surprise result twice. Same name on top both times? That's real.
Signed out. Logged in, AI can use what it knows about you, like the fact that you own the business. Your customer isn't logged in as you, and a private window shows you what they actually see.
About five minutes. You run the same five jobs and paste last month's report back in. Put a reminder on your phone for the 1st so you don't forget.
Don't panic. Most owners have never even checked. Start with your biggest job and read why AI picked the name on top. Do the one fix the report gives you, then check again next month.
