You have heard of evergreen content, right? You know it is an essential part of a smart SEO strategy. A guide or post that targets a good keyword includes tips that are relevant now and in the future and provide helpful images that will help generate and attract more traffic to your site, year after year.

However, even well-written, evergreen content will begin to show its age at some point. There will also come a time when the content will become outdated. 

With that in mind, there are some tips you can use to help give your evergreen content a refresh while keeping SEO efforts in check. In the long run, this can help you earn favor from your audience and Google. 

Reconsider Your Keywords

Keyword targeting occurs when you create a piece of content around a specific phrase or word. Ideally, this should be one your customers are looking up when searching for your services or products. With this, you can ensure your business is seen by customers when they intend to buy, engage, or learn. 

If you have content with good information but haven’t been targeted to a keyword or phrase, take time to conduct keyword research and determine what keyword to target. You can find several free tools to help you with this process. 

Remove or Add Information

If you have well-focused content and don’t want to change what you are targeting, you can consider removing or adding to the information included. Remember, there is tons of information “out there.” Because of this, you have to ensure the information you are sharing remains relevant. Some tips to help you do this include:

  • Cross-check your resources
  • Add new resources to your content
  • Include statistics
  • Include quotes from customers
  • Add in real results
  • Provide action items

Reevaluate Your Visual Elements

Visual marketing is a huge factor when it comes to differentiating your brand from the competitors. There are a few ways you can refresh the visual elements of your page. 

One option is to add images. If you don’t have any now, you will be surprised how much this can help improve your content. Along with static images, consider posting videos and infographics, too. You should also make sure that the images you are using are optimized. Be sure they aren’t too big or small and that they aren’t slowing down your page’s load speed. All this can hurt your ranking, so make changes if needed. 

Change Up Your Format

Format matters. The best content to create is long-format content. With longer word counts, you have more opportunities for Google to rank the information you have posted.
