Last year, 84% of the families they helped moved into permanent housing. However, this achievement goes far beyond four walls and a roof—it extends to the empowerment offered by finding employment and nurturing enhanced financial successes.
Even more exciting is the opportunity the children of these families now have. They are enrolled in schools or quality childcare environments, unhindered by worry and overwhelming anxiety, allowing their potential to flourish.
Amidst all the progress, we can celebrate our third family becoming homeowners. This milestone is a personal victory for this family and the bigger community behind these individuals.
Cardboard City: An Opportunity to Support This Important Cause
This year, as we gather again for the remarkable Cardboard City event, we lay the foundation for the next chapter in our story. The echoes of last year’s success resonate with this year’s efforts.
This event is a testament to the values that drive us—a shared commitment to compassion, dignity, and hospitality. You are invited to join us in understanding the struggle of many families and working to support this amazing cause.
This event is crucial in raising awareness about homelessness in our area. Currently, over 2,800 students in the Duval County school system are homeless. As a community, we must support these children and families to help them find stability.
That’s exactly what the Cardboard City event intends to do.
How to Participate
This is the 13th annual Cardboard City event and we hope it is the biggest yet. If you want to participate, there are two options:
- Participate in person: This option involves spending the night onsite at the event in a car, tent, or cardboard box.
- Participate virtually: You can participate at home if you can’t attend the onsite event. The only stipulation is that you spend the night somewhere besides in your bed and collect pledges for Family Promise.
If you attend the in-person event, you will receive a simple dinner and movie before sleeping in your structure or vehicle.
